Using simple tools and materials spontaneously allowing the ongoing process to suggest its own variations; encouraging a more intuitive approach to creativity, mine is a less self-conscious approach to art. My materials are mixed from borrowed formulas that I have adjusted over the years to suit my purpose. The clay body and the slips that I mix and apply on leather hard forms by brushing, trailing, and combing pay reference to the forming process. Spirals, circles, and patterns in motion accentuate the spinning clay during the throwing process. The slab forms are slip decorated with more linear and abstract patterns that accentuate the simple geometric shape and the planes of each piece. All are fired to cone 10 in a reduction atmosphere which brings the layers of clay body, slip, and celadon glaze through to the surface creating interesting visual and tactile variations as seen in nature.

I draw inspiration from my love of ‘Water & Sky’ and deep spiritual yearnings. My pottery features colors & designs of the cold deep oceans and starry night skies.
Using the sgraffito (etching) technique in parts of my process, I have developed a line of work that is purposefully spiritual in nature yet is versatile to include pieces with social commentary or a commemorative message. I invite custom orders for my etched ware.
My artwork arrives in groupings. I may repeat it for a while, then I’m on to other motifs. Sometimes sculptural elements show up.
If you have requests, I am open to discuss, as I enjoy collaboration.
